India mobile download speeds up to 14.19 Mbps: Ookla

India's performance in median download speeds on fixed broadband on the other hand saw a slight dip from 48.15 Mbps in March to 48.09 Mbps in April. As a result, India slipped to 76 on the global ranking for overall median fixed broadband speeds as compared to 72 in the month prior.

India recorded 14.19 Mbps median mobile download speeds in April, up from 13.67 Mbps in March. According to data released by global network intelligence and connectivity insights provider Ookla, India is now two notches up in its global ranking and is at 118th position.

The data was released as part of Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index April report.

India's performance in median download speeds on fixed broadband on the other hand saw a slight dip from 48.15 Mbps in March to 48.09 Mbps in April. As a result, India slipped to 76 on the global ranking for overall median fixed broadband speeds as compared to 72 in the month prior.

According to the April Speedtest Global Index, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore took the top spot in mobile broadband and fixed broadband respectively. The UAE notched up a median mobile download speed of 134.48 Mbps while Singapore recorded a median fixed broadband speed of 207.61 Mbps.

Ukraine and Papua New Guinea registered the highest increase in rank on the index for median mobile and fixed broadband performance respectively for the month of April.

Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index ranks mobile and fixed broadband speeds from around the world on a monthly basis. Data for the Global Index comes from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by real people using Speedtest every month to test their Internet performance.
