BENGALURU: Amid a row over school textbook content, the Karnataka education department on Tuesday clarified that it has not dropped the chapter on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh from its textbooks. Politicians and students’ organisations have slammed the state government for reportedly including RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar’s speech in the books and dropping a chapter on Bhagat Singh. But, education minister BC Nagesh said while the Class 10 text on Singh has remained unchanged, Hedgewar’s speech is part of extra reading material and isn’t considered for exams. Karnataka Textbook Society MD Madegowda said they have included the Hedgewar text in toto as recommended by the experts’ committee.
