Thiruvananthapuram: MP N K Premachandran has said that the tender process for upgrading Kollam railway station into international standards has begun. The project cost has been pegged at Rs 290 crore and it is estimated that the work should be complete before the end of 2023. The Centre has selected 21 railway stations across the country for upgrading into international standards and one among them is Kollam railway station, the MP said. Even though the railway had initially planned to hand over the work to an outside agency, it has been now decided that the railways will directly handle the works. As part of this a shopping complex, amnesties matching international standards and several other passenger friendly initiatives are being planned as part of the project, he said. The tendering process has been floated by the construction wing of the railways and a detailed time bound action plan has been charted out for the completion of the work.TNN
