NAVI MUMBAI: There is finally some good news from
Seawoods where the tidal water blockage of DPS lake has been fully cleared by the forest officials, after environmentalist and member of the high court appointed wetlands panel, D
Stalin, had complained on this issue.
Talking to TOI, Stalin said: "Last Saturday, I had noticed that stones and gravel were used to block the tidal inlet of DPS lake in Seawoods. That is why very little tidal water was trickling through. However, on Tuesday the forest officials visited the lake site and properly removed the blockage. Hence, I thank the forest department and the mangrove cell as it will help the
Lesser Flamingos and other migratory birds that visit this wetland."
The deputy conservator of forests (mangrove cell) Adarsh Reddy told TOI that his staff had responded to Stalin's complaint and checked the inlet blockage to ensure that tidal water flow is not interrupted by the stones and mud.
Many bird watchers who regularly come to DPS lake and the
Talawe wetland have also welcomed the positive impact of the action taken by state forest department.
