MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray must resign, demanded state BJP president Chandrakant Patil on Wednesday.
Patil said the Madhya Pradesh government lost no time in collecting empirical data and regained the political reservation for the Other Backward Communities (OBC). "On the other hand in Maharashtra for the last two-and-a-half years the process of collection of empirical data has been delayed and thus the OBCs in the state have lost their political reservation. This is a failure of the Thackeray government and hence he must resign," said Patil.
Holding the Maha Vikas Aghadi government responsible for the Marathas losing their reservation, for creating problems in promotions for the Scheduled Castes and Schedules Tribes, Patil said the Thackeray led government has now caused serious damage to the OBCs.
Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis said the Supreme Court allowing OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh is a tight slap on the face of MVA leaders, "who mocked us whenever we insisted on triple set. Only due to absence of triple test, OBCs from #Maharashtra are deprived of their rights. Our fight continues till #OBCReservation gets restored," he tweeted. Fadnavis said all those in government responsible for the OBCs losing political reservation must resign.
Maharashtra was informed in 2019 to complete the triple test. For an entire year it blamed the Centre, then it appointed a commission but did not provide funds or staff, presented a report which the commission said it did not prepare, said Fadnavis. The MP government when informed it had submitted a consolidated report it immediately provided data on the basis of local body because of which its reservation for the OBCs was approved, said Fadnavis. "The MVA government is anti-OBC, it does not want to give them reservation," he said.
OBC leader Pankaja Munde said the MP government did the correct work on the empirical data and hence was able to save the reservation for the OBCs there. "It is my appeal to the OBC ministers to take this issue seriously and save the reservation for the OBC community. The Maharashtra government is only using delaying tactics," she said.
