Attention Mumbaikars, traffic snarls to continue till May 24 due to JVLR flyover repair work

Brace up for traffic jams due to the ongoing Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road flyover, and Eastern Express Highway renovation work till May 24. The Mumbai Traffic Police has asked commuters to use an alternative route to avoid any inconvenience.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation(MSRDC) appointed contractor is carrying out the repair work of the JVLR flyover comprising bearing replacement and expansion of Joints. A total of seven joints are there of which four have been fixed whereas three more are remaining said an official.

In fact, after three consecutive days of holiday on Tuesday bumper to a bumper traffic jam was observed. This will remain till mid of May. Meanwhile, a few commuters also reacted on the MicroBlogging site of Twitter about the traffic problem on JVLR. A netizens names NiraliMumbaikar suggested not to allow trucks, and big vehicles from using service roads. While another Twitter user named NarevekarSagar said that both side service roads need to be opened to the traffic heading towards Thane direction. Besides, Kanjurmarg Junction to Kanjurmarg Village service road should be temporarily refurbished to ensure easy movement of traffic.

According to the MSRDC, after JVLR flyover work next month the Western Express Highway (WEH) three flyovers National Park, DattaPada, and Aarey will be repaired step by step. The Free Press Journal had reported that a private contractor has been appointed for this flyover work. In fact, these three flyovers are over 22 years old and for the first time, they will go for repair. In Aarey Colony Flyover- 312 bearing- 312 need to be replaced which will cost Rs 5.74 crore Whereas the National Park Flyover 219 Bearing need to be replaced and cost incurred will be Rs 4.88 crore while the Dattapada flyover 396 of bearing to be changed at cost of Rs 6.85 crore. The official added that the contractor has given the new bearing procurement order. Despite the monsoon being nearing the expected renovation will begin stressed the official.
