India reported 1,569 new coronavirus cases and 19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, reported the Union health ministry. With the latest fatalities, the death count has increased to 5,24,260.

The active cases stand at 16,400. A decrease of 917 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

A day earlier, the country had reported 2,202 new cases and 27 deaths.

The active cases comprised 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.75 per cent, the ministry said.

With the addition of 12 new coronavirus cases, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 7,09,380, an official said today. These new cases were reported on Monday, he said.
