Man arrested for harassing lady advocate in Trichy

TRICHY: Trichy city police arrested a 22-year-old man for harassing a woman advocate here on Sunday. The Thillai Nagar police arrested C Gopinath of Theppakulam Street in Srirangam on charges of harassing the 36-year-old woman advocate under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998, and abusing her, voluntarily causing hurt, attempting to commit robbery and criminal intimidation under sections of IPC.
Police said the incident took place when the woman, residing in Trichy city, was returning home on her two-wheeler from her office on Sunday night. Gopinath followed her on a two-wheeler and tried to ram her two-wheeler from behind near Kalaignar Arivalayam. However, the woman advocate escaped unharmed and reached Thennur Mandhai.
Police arrested Gopinath. He was also remanded in prison by the court.
