The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking on Tuesday said at least 163 of 275 mini buses stayed off roads due to a flash strike called by the contractor's staff over non-payment of salaries.
This is the second flash agitation by the contractor's drivers in less than a month, inconveniencing scores of passengers. Earlier on April 22, several of 275 mini buses stayed off roads owing to the flash strike of drivers over delayed salaries.
Of the 275 mini buses of MP Group, only 112 were operated due to the agitation of employees, BEST spokesperson Manoj Varade said. "To prevent any inconvenience to passengers, the BEST operated its own buses from other depots," Varade said, adding that 94 extra buses were plied during the day. (PTI)
The Bombay High Court has refused to grant protection from arrest to the chairperson of a school in Maharashtra's Kolhapur in a case of abetting the suicide of a student.
In an order passed last month, a bench of Justice Vinay Joshi rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by Ganpatrao Patil, who was booked by the Kolhapur police in April on the charge of abetment to suicide, after a Class 10 student killed himself a few hours after he was allegedly reprimanded by Patil.
The high court observed that the accused had scolded the boy in an “unruly manner”, and prima facie (on the face of it), had pushed the boy into a "state of deep frustration". (PTI)

"The Kashmir Files" director Vivek Agnihotri took a dig at former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah, saying he agreed with the political leader's remarks that his film was responsible for the unrest in the Valley.
Abdullah had called for a ban on "The Kashmir Files", describing the film as a hateful campaign.
In his response to the Lok Sabha member, Agnihotri posted a sarcastic remark on Twitter, and said: "Had it not been #TheKashmirFiles , then Hindus wouldn't have been massacred." "You're right Farooq Abdullah sahab... If there were no #TheKashmirFiles, then Hindus wouldn't have been massacred," the director tweeted last night.
"Your residents learned the slogans of 'Raliv, Galiv and Chaliv' (convert, leave or die) from my film, otherwise those innocent people would not even know how to speak. The flag of Pakistan was also put up by this film," Agnihotri wrote in Hindi. (PTI)
Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai talks about how he plans to bring investments into Maharashtra, the “unwillingness” of the Centre to engage with Opposition states in drafting policies of national significance and the Shiv Sena’s commitment to renaming Aurangabad as Sambhaji Nagar.
Can you share some insight on the development that is taking place in the industrial sector in Maharashtra?
The state has developed a complete ecosystem for industrial development and that is the reason it is the preferred destination for investors. We have more than 1 lakh hectares of fully-developed industrial land for distribution. We are now focusing on certain sectors, including bulk drugs. We are developing a bulk drug park in Raigad district near Roha and Murud. In addition to this, we are also developing electronics parks — one in Aurangabad and another in Talegaon near Pune. We are also introducing a new IT policy, which will ensure inclusive growth for the sector and related industries and grant it relaxation in setting up businesses.
