GUWAHATI/SILCHAR: At least eight people died across northeast India in the last 24 hours, as flash floods and landslides, triggered by heavy rains affected lakhs of people in the region. Four persons, including a woman, died in landslides in Arunachal Pradesh. While two were killed when their house was hit by a landslide in Itanagar, two PWD labourers were killed at the Ganga-Jully basti road.
Four more people were reported dead in south Assam’s Cachar district as the season’s first wave of flood affected two lakh people in the state.

Landslides wreaked havoc in the hill district of Dima Hasao and cut off train connectivity to Barak Valley and Tripura. The death toll so far has climbed to seven in the last three days in Assam.
