
The 75th Cannes Film Festival Day 2 photos are here. Deepika Padukone walked the red carpet in a gold and black saree at the opening ceremony of the 75th Cannes Film Festival. Urvashi Rautela and Tamannaah Bhatia too were seen at their stylish best as they walked the Cannes red carpet.
This time, the prestigious film festival is celebrating Indian cinema. India has been chosen as the first ‘country of honour’ at Marche du Cinema, and on the opening day, a delegation from India, led by I&B Minister Anurag Thakur, will be walking the red carpet. The delegation includes AR Rahman, Pooja Hegde, Shekhar Kapur, among others.
Earlier, Akshay Kumar was also scheduled to walk the red carpet but the actor was tested positive for Covid-19. He tweeted, “Was really looking forward to rooting for our cinema at the India Pavilion at #Cannes2022, but have sadly tested positive for Covid. Will rest it out. Loads of best wishes to you and your entire team, @ianuragthakur. Will really miss being there.”
This year, six films from India are being screened at the Cannes Film Market. These include – Rocketry – The Nambi Effect (Hindi, English, Tamil), Godavari (Marathi), Alpha Beta Gamma (Hindi), Boomba Ride (Mishing), Dhuin (Maithili) and Niraye Thathakalulla Maram (Malayalam).
Indian actor Deepika Padukone is a part of the jury at the prestigious film festival. “While it does feel like a personal victory, it also feels like a slightly larger victory for the South Asian community… We can literally count on our fingertips the number of times anyone from India has been on the jury or has had the opportunity to represent the country at a platform such as this,” Deepika told PTI.

Talking about representing India at Cannes Film Festival 2022, Deepika Padukone said, "It is something I never imagined or expected. 15 years ago, when I made my debut in the industry, nobody had faith in me or my talent. But now, to be part of the jury and actually be experiencing best cinema in the world has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for that."
Folk singer Mame Khan revealed that he did his first ever show at Cannes around 23 years back. Calling it a matter of pride, the singer said, "This time, I had the opportunity to walk the red carpet with the eminent personalities of the film industry. I am not only here for music but to also promote Rajasthan culture." He also made Deepika Padukone, Pooja Hegde and Tamannaah Bhatia dance to his tunes.

Pooja Hegde made her Cannes Film Festival debut this year. The actor said it was her dream to represent India at Cannes. "It has always been a dream to be at Cannes. It has been possible because of Anurag Thakur. What's amazing is that I have not come with a brand but have come to represent the country, celebrating the country as an Indian actor," she said.
Grammy-winning musician Ricky Kej is one of the celebrities attending the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
At the inauguration of Marche du Film at Cannes 2022, Deepika Padukone, Pooja Hegde, Tamannah Bhatia and Urvashi Rautela danced to Mame Khan’s rendition of “Ghoomar”.

The crew will also launch its Non Fungible Tokens(NFTs) and its entry into metaverse in association with Vistaverse. Vikram, an upcoming action thriller film, also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Fahad Faasil in major roles opposite Kamal Haasan.

At the jury meeting, Deepika Padukone was asked if she felt burdened by the task of judging a film. Deepika said, "I think we are all aware of the fact that it is a huge responsibility. But, I think, we have also made a promise to each other yesterday that we are not going to burden ourselves with that responsibility. I think the idea is to remind ourselves of that audience, or of that young child who’s grown up watching movies and been inspired."
