Ludhiana: The Focal Point police on Monday arrested a man for murder bid on a shopkeeper after barging into his shop in Gobindgarh village following an old rivalry. The accused rushed out to save his life and entered a house however the accused chased him and assaulted him again.
The accused has been identified as
Daljit Singh of Gobindgarh village. He assaulted
Pankaj Kumar, 24, of the same area, who runs a mobile phone shop.
Pankaj said on May 11 he was in his shop when the accused turned up there with a sharp-edged weapon. The accused hit him on his chest with an intention to kill. He rushed out of the shop to save himself and took shelter in the house of his neighbour Ramesh Kumar. However, the accused chased him and again assaulted him with the sharp-edged weapon.
The people started gathering there after which the accused escaped from the spot. Thereafter, he was rushed to hospital.

Jaswant Lal said the FIR was lodged late as the doctors had declared the victim unfit for recording his statements. On Sunday, he recorded the statement after which a case was registered. tnn
