Reconvert temples that were forcefully made mosques: Karnataka seer

Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji
UDUPI: Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, pontiff of Pejawar Mutt, said he does not see a problem if temples were converted into mosques after the land was purchased. He said for “some reason”, many temples have been converted into mosques in the past.
“If a temple was converted after it was purchased, then we have no objection,” the pontiff said. “However, if a place of worship was converted through force, it should be reconverted. This applies not only to temples, but to all places of worship. Everyone should respect the directions of courts. If a court says a shrine belongs to Hindus, then Muslims should return the structure, and if it was a Muslim dargha, it should be given back to Muslims. ”
However, he said, “all places of worship that are conquered and converted need to be reconverted. ” He said the Constitution, governments and courts belong to the people and thus, it is the responsibility of every citizen to follow their directions and the Constitution.
“Decisions of courts should not be looked at as a failure by any community. Instead, they should accept it as a duty and ensure peace and harmony in the society,” the seer said.
He also urged people to follow the Supreme Court order on use of loudspeakers. “The government has also issued guidelines. It has said prior permission from respective authorities must be obtained. This should be followed strictly. Harmony in society is possible only if people adhere to the rule of the land,” he said.
