AURANGABAD: Parts of Beed and Hingoli districts in the Marathwada region are likely to receive light rainfall along with thundershowers over the next 48 hours.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Parbhani, Nanded, Latur and Osmanabad district could witness thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places. However, Aurangabad and Jalna are likely to witness dry weather.
K K Dakhore, the agricultural meteorologist with the Parbhani-based Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, said the southwest monsoon getting advanced into South Indian sea, Nicobar Islands and adjoining Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours will have an impact on Marathwada’s weather.
“The progress of southwest monsoon will result in strong south westernly winds from the Bay of Bengal to northeast and adjoining east India at lower tropics level. It will lead to rainfall activity in few parts of the region besides extreme weather events such as thunderstorms with lightning in some areas,” Dakhore said.
As per IMD, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is also likely in Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts whereas other parts of Maharashtra are likely to experience normal dry weather.
While unseasonal rain along with thunderstorm may bring some relief from the excruciating summer heat being observed currently, the extreme weather events may harm mango orchards at many places in the region.
Meanwhile, Aurangabad and other parts of the region on Sunday witnessed above normal temperature range. At 41.2 degrees Celsius, maximum temperature in Aurangabad was above normal by two units. Parbhani continued to be among hottest cities in Maharashtra having recorded a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius.
