
A 35-year-old man, accused of stealing cattle, was beaten to death by a mob in a village in Raigad district recently, the police said on Monday. His two accomplices were also injured in the attack, they said.
The Mangaon police have registered an FIR against 13 villagers for murder and rioting and arrested six of them. The victim has been identified as Intzaar Ali, a resident of Thane.
Three FIRs havse been filed in the case including one for theft of cattle against the victim and two of his accomplices. The latter have been arrested.
The police claimed the trio were history-sheeters and had more than a dozen FIRs registered against them in different police stations in the state.

The incident took place on the night of May 6 at Mhasewadi village under Mangaon tehsil.
According to Police Patil Pradip Mhamunkar, he was informed by villagers that some thieves had stolen some of their cattle after making them unconscious. They added that one of the cattle was lying unconscious near the village bus stop. The Police Patil, who mediates between the police and the villagers, reached the bus stop and found that the cattle lying there belonged to him. He then lodged an FIR.
Meanwhile, the villagers caught three men in a car near Rawalje dam and two other cattle were also found unconscious near their vehicle.
The angry mob then set fire to the car and beat up the men.
While two of them managed to escape, the third person was seriously injured in the attack. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. The escaped persons were arrested later.
The police said they had stolen four cattle from the village after making them unconscious by giving them injections, for which two separate FIRs have been registered.
