Almost-empty boat sinks off Ballard Pier in Mumbai; no casualty as crew aboard rescued

Passenger boat ‘Mustaqueen’ that ferries people between Elephanta and ferry wharf/Gateway developed a hole at the bottom and sank off the Ballard Pier coast on Saturday morning.
No casaulty was reported as only a few people, mostly the crew, were aboard and saved by a boat sailing nearby.
MUMBAI: Passenger boat ‘Mustaqueen’ that ferries people between Elephanta and ferry wharf/Gateway developed a hole at the bottom and sank off the Ballard Pier coast on Saturday morning.
No casaulty was reported as only a few people, mostly the crew, were aboard and saved by a boat sailing nearby. Mumbai Port Authority officials said the 100-passenger capacity boat was cruising almost empty towards ferry wharf.
Sources said there were three crew members aboard. While two of them jumped out with the help of a rope and were saved by a boat cruising nearby, the master of the ship was the last to jump out.
