COIMBATORE: The Selvapuram police arrested a 25-year-old man for attempting to murder his 75-year-old grandmother over a financial dispute at Telungupalayam in the city on Saturday.
The arrested person was identified as C
Karthik of Vaithiyar Arumuga Udaiyar Street, an electrician.
Karthik’s younger brother C Alagarsamy, a goldsmith, had lodged a police complaint. “The brothers were staying with their grandmother G
Meena in a rented house.
Alagarsamy had bought a new motorcycle three months ago and was not able to give any money to Meena to meet household expenses. Karthik had sustained injuries in a workplace accident and was not earning any money. Meena had to borrow 15,000 from their house owner
Manoharan to manage family budget. She requested her grandsons to repay the loan as soon as possible,” a police officer said.
Karthik often told Meena that he would kill her if she demanded money, the officer said. “On Saturday morning, Manoharan called Alagarsamy and told him that he had seen Karthik walking out of their house with a knife after a loud argument with Meena. Alagarsamy rushed to the house to find Meena in a pool of blood. He rushed her to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).”
The Selvapuram police registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Karthik in the evening. He was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
