Tomato flu rumours in Karnataka's Udupi are false: Deputy commissioner

Udupi deputy commissioner M Kurma Rao
UDUPI: M Kurma Rao, deputy commissioner of Udupi, stated that the rumours about the detection of tomato flu in the district are false.
The DC denied that a four-year-old child from Udupi had contracted tomato flu, claiming that the case had nothing to do with the tomato flu reported in Kerala.
“I’ve already had discussions with the health department’s district surveillance unit. A similar case was found a few days ago and was confirmed to be foot and mouth disease. The district surveillance unit has clarified that there is no link between that case and tomato flu. I have directed health officials to verify all paediatric cases in government and private hospitals,” the DC told reporters here on Monday.
“We have not received any reports of children showing symptoms of tomato flu. The health department has stepped up its surveillance system, and parents need not panic,” he said.
Sources said that the health department has ramped up the surveillance in the district in the backdrop of many devotees from Kerala visiting Kollur temple.
