MUMBAI: Developer Chaitanya Mehta, site supervisor Faizal Shaikh, and crane operator Devraj Sahu have been booked by the Santacruz police for allegedly continuing construction work at Santacruz (west) past 10pm, resulting in noise pollution.
Senior inspector Dyaneshwar Ganore said, “Notices under section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code (any police officer may without an order from a magistrate and without a warrant, arrest any person) have been served to all those who were booked for noise pollution and violating the court order of carrying out work post 10pm.”
Around 10.40pm, sub-inspector Mahesh Nagare visited the construction site of Aum Developers after local residents complained to the police control room about work going on at night. In the complaint, Nagare stated, “I, along with a team, reached the construction site and found heavy sound and work being carried out even after 10pm. We found cement spilled all over the place and the cement mixer machine placed on the road, endangering vehicle movement at the site. Heavy construction vehicles and equipment were not installed with any light reflector, risking lives of motorists that could crash into it at night.”
Recently, officials of MHB Colony police station had slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 on a builder for allegedly carrying out work in Borivli on Sunday. At Chembur and DN Nagar too, two other builders had also been penalised.
