Son stays with mom’s body for 3 days in Hyderabad flat

HYDERABAD: In a macabre incident, a 55-year-old woman's naked body was found in a Malkajgiri flat along with her son, who apparently spent three days with the lifeless body reeking of stench. After receiving a call from neighbours on ‘Dial 100', police broke open the flat door only to find the woman's decomposed body in the late hours of Friday.
Malkajgiri police said Vijaya Vani's body was in a decomposed state when a cops' team arrived at the flat following a complaint from the neighbours in Mythri Nagar.What shocked the cops was the body being in a naked condition and her 22-year-old son Venkat Sai not bothering to inform them and staying put inside the flat despite the foul smell. Sai is said to be mentally challenged.
Sai was taken into preventive custody as police suspect his hand in the death of his mother. "Since the body was decomposed, we could not see any external injuries. We shifted the body to government hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain if it is a case of murder," Malkajgiri inspector B Jagadeeshwar Rao told STOI.
Police suspect Sai is not mentally sound and took him to a hospital to ascertain the state of his mind. Neighbours in the apartment told cops that Sai used to quarrel with his mother frequently. They also informed police that neither Vani nor Sai had stepped out of the flat in the last 3-4 days.
Vani's death is shrouded in mystery as her body was found in a naked state when cops arrived at the flat. In fact, when cops knocked the door of the deceased's flat, Sai did not respond. Finally, they had to break open the door.
A case of suspicious death under the CrPC was registered. Police said Vani's husband had died several years ago and both Sai and Vani have been residing in the flat for a long time.
