GUWAHATI: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday launched the state’s biggest-ever exercise of handing over appointment letters to about 23,000 job aspirants in 11 government departments.
Sarma termed it a momentous day as the state government took a big stride to fulfil its promise of giving one lakh jobs to youths every year. He claimed the recruitment was fully transparent. “During this appointment process no one had to pay a single penny as a bribe. It has been totally free of corruption,” Sarma asserted.
The CM urged new recruits to perform their duties diligently to transform the lives of the underprivileged. At the event, organised at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara here, the CM handed over appointment letters to 17 candidates personally. The rest of the candidates got their letters from officials.
The home and education departments recruited the maximum number of candidates. Appointment letters were distributed for 8,867 posts in the home department, 11,063 in the education department, 330 in the public health engineering department and 105 in the water resources department. While 69 were appointed in the social welfare department, 2,419 got appointed in the health department, 55 in the agriculture department, 23 in the environment and forest department and eight in the PWD (Roads) department. Two got jobs in the mines and minerals department and 17 in the labour welfare department.
“Our government is fulfilling its promise to the people of providing one lakh government jobs and two lakh employment to the youth of the state if voted to power,” he said. The CM went on to add that the ministers of his cabinet worked unrelentingly during this period and as an outcome the government could provide jobs to 4,779 youths.
He added that steps are being taken to appoint 7,000 to 8,000 youths in government services in the next few days. He also announced that the government would conduct written examinations for the recruitment of candidates to 26,000 posts in the last week of July.
