Class 9 boy commits suicide in Lakhpat, reasons unknown

Rajkot: A 15-year-old boy studying in Class 9 hanged himself to death from a tree on the outskirts of his village in Lakhpat taluka of Kutch district on Friday.

The police said that the immediate reason for suicide of Jitendra Khimji Jepara, a resident of Junhagiya village, was not known even as cops could not take statements of the family who were still in shock.

Primary investigation revealed that Jitendra had left home on Thursday evening saying that he was going to the farm. But after he failed to return home till night, the family started searching for him in the village but in vain. They also lodged a missing persons complaint with the Dayapar police station the next morning.

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon, the family was informed of a boy’s body seen hanging from a tree near the farm of Hansrajsinh Gor, about 1km away from Junhagiya village. Jitendra’s family rushed to the farm and confirmed it to be Jitendra.

According to police, Jitendra is the youngest of five siblings — four brothers and a sister. Dayapar police official said that as there was no suicide note and the reason for the teenager’s extreme step was a mystery. The reason will be clear only after statements of family members are recorded, said the police.
