Synopsis

The guideline was to prepare for the coming panchayat polls in 2023 and also prepare for the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

"Amit Shah, JP Nadda or other central leaders will come to Bengal every month in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls," Ghosh, said. "In May, it was Amit Shah, while in June, it will be JP Nadda."
Union home minister Amit Shah has chalked out a roadmap for the BJP in the state for fighting the 2023 panchayat polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP national vice-president JP Nadda will be on a two-day tour on the state to give a boost to party workers and assess the organisational framework, BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh told ET in an exclusive interview.

"Amit Shah has given us a roadmap and we are working on it. Tasks have been delegated to us. Amit Shahji, during his last visit, directed us to politically fight the battle. The guideline was to prepare for the coming panchayat polls in 2023 and also prepare for the Lok Sabha polls in 2024. Shah has been coming to Bengal for the last seven-eight years and has a fair understanding of the state. He heard the workers during his visit and told us to fight at the ground level. The process has started and the party is organising movements on various issues," Ghosh told ET.

"Amit Shah, JP Nadda or other central leaders will come to Bengal every month in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls," Ghosh, said. "In May, it was Amit Shah, while in June, it will be JP Nadda."

In the 2018 panchayat polls, the state had witnessed large scale violence and the opposition - BJP, Congress and CPI-M - were not allowed to even file nomination. "In the 2023 panchayat polls, we are expecting similar violence. If elections are under State Election Commission, similar violence will take place. In the last municipal polls, the BJP workers and supporters were not allowed to vote. However, we will fight in all the seats. Trinamool may stay away from violence, keeping in mind the impact of the panchayat violence on the 2018 Lok Sabha polls," Ghosh said.

Ghosh said, "Many grassroot workers became inactive after the 2021 assembly poll results. We are trying to bring them back."
