Noida: Four persons, including two children, were injured as a
Land Rover Defender ploughed into an Eeco van on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Saturday morning. The Eeco van was dragged for at least 50-70 metres due to the impact of the collision, police said.

Vansh (5) and Jhalak (3), all residents of Ujhani in Badaun district, were going towards Delhi when they were hit by the Land Rover car around 5.30 am near
Samsung office on the expressway. Aasim Gill (27), who was driving the Land Rover, escaped unhurt, cops said. Gill was heading to his house in Faridabad after meeting a friend in Noida Sector 126, Ranvijay Singh, additional
DCP (Noida), said, adding that the accident took place before a police patrol team.
“The four injured were taken to the District Hospital in Sector 30 by the cops in the PCR. All of them were discharged from the hospital after treatment,” Singh said. While police have seized the Land Rover and detained the driver, they are yet to receive a complaint in the matter.
“Both the vehicles were damaged. A wheel of the Eeco van also came off due to the impact of the collision. We are investigating if the Land Rover driver was inebriated. Gill claimed that he had dozed off while driving following which the accident took place,” a police officer said.
Cops also told TOI that the Land Rover hit the van at a very high speed and dragged it about 50-70 meters.
According to traffic police department data, in the last five years, more than 2,000 people have lost their lives in nearly 4,600 road accidents in the district. In 2021 alone, 798 crashes were reported in the district, which left 368 people dead and around 550 injured, the data stated.The district reported 987 accidents in 2017, in which 423 people died and 892 were injured.
In 2018, a total of 452 people were killed and 743 injured in 1,007 accidents. The numbers went up further the next year when 499 people lost their lives in 1,162 accidents that also caused injuries to 907 others. Despite thin traffic due to Covid-induced lockdown in 2020, the district reported 745 accidents, in which 380 people died.
