Temperature rise triggers power cuts
The unbearable heat forced people to remain confined to their homes and offices in the afternoon. Even at 7pm, the maximum temperature in the city was around 42°C. As many as 13 of the 33 districts witnessed temperatures of 47°C and above in the past 24 hours. In its forecast, Jaipur Met office said there will be no respite from heat wave conditions barring a mild shower and dust storm on May 16.
In several districts, people used ice cubes in water coolers to beat the heat. The rise in temperatures also triggered power cuts in many places. “There has been a spike in power consumption,” said an officer of Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited.
