According to the case details, the complainant had started an angadia firm in Dhrangadhra two momnths ago along with a local partner Mahesh Padheriya. On April 28, the duo received a phone call from one Sanjay Mewada, who identified himself as the nephew of Sangram Mewada, a well-known businessman of Dhrangadhra. Sanjay offered to give Mahesh’s angadia firm business on the condition that he gets some time to clear the dues.
Mahesh agreed and did some transactions for small amounts over couple of weeks.
On May 11, Sanjay called up Mahesh asking him to transfer Rs 15 lakh to one Jayantibhai in Gondal town immediately and Mahesh did as told. Sanjay said that he would pay the money by evening. But when Mahesh did not get the payment as promised, he called Sanjay who assured him that he would give it the next day.
When Mahesh called Sanjay on his mobile phone later, all calls went unanswered. Thereafter, suspecting foul, Mahesh approached Sangram, who said that he had not assigned any work to Sanjay. Mahesh realised that he had been cheated and filed a complaint with the police.
During investigation, the police identified Bharat Kanjariya from the CCTV footage at the angadia firm where he had come for transactions in April. On questioning Kanjariya, police came to know that he was part of a gang that cheated people. Based on Kanjariya’s statement, cops arrested the four other accused.
