Gurgaon: Traffic on a section of the Delhi-Jaipur highway will be disrupted between 11am and 3pm on Sunday as the Ahir Morcha will take out a vehicle rally to press for its demand of an Ahir regiment in the Army. Sunday will mark the 100th day of the protest.
Police said the rally would start at Kherki Daula and culminate at IFFCO Chowk.
At Rajiv Chowk, the Morcha supporters will submit to the deputy commissioner a memorandum addressed to the President, Prime Minister and the defence minister. After submitting it, the rally will proceed towards IFFCO Chowk. It is expected to start at 11am and continue till 3pm.
The Morcha has been protesting at the Kherki Daula toll plaza for the past three months.
Sunday’s rally will throw traffic out of gear on the stretch between Kherki Daula and IFFCO Chowk. But Sunday being a holiday for most office-goers, the traffic is expected to remain relatively thin.
Police in Gurgaon have planned several diversions to minimise the disruption. Only light vehicles will be diverted. The movement of buses and other heavy vehicles will be restricted. DCP (traffic) RS Tomar said light vehicles coming from the Jaipur side would have to take a left from IMT Manesar chowk and move on the Pataudi-Gurgaon road.
Vehicles exiting Delhi would be asked to take an alternative route via Golf Course Road (Cyber City), Golf Course Extension road, Vatika Chowk (Badshahpur), SPR and finally get back on to the highway. Those coming from MG Road would be advised to take a slight left, 100 metres ahead of IFFCO Chowk slip road towards Huda City Centre.
Similarly, traffic coming from the city bus stand will have to take the route via MDI Chowk, Signature flyover underpass and Huda City Centre metro road.
Heavy vehicles leaving Jaipur would have to take the KMP from Pachgaon to go to Delhi and Faridabad.
