LUCKNOW: More than 70% of the state's population above 15 years of age is now fully vaccinated. In this way, nearly two out of three persons above the age of 15 in UP are vaccinated against coronavirus.
The fact came to fore as Uttar Pradesh achieved the mark of 32 crore doses administered on Saturday. More than 189 crore doses have been administered across India.
Officials pointed out that 90% of the 18-plus population and 70% of the adolescents in the 15-17 years age group have taken at least two doses of the vaccine against the pandemic virus. They believed that this achievement will fortify the state's herd immunity towards coronavirus.
Indicating that the entire 18-plus population of UP will be vaccinated with two doses by the end of May 2022, officials urged people due for their dose to come forward and take their due dose.
They also pointed out that UP was the first state in India to have administered more than 32 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine, which is a major landmark and speaks for the state's success on the covid-19 vaccination front.
UP is followed by
Maharashtra with 16.6 crore doses administered so far. Next in the line are
West Bengal, Bihar and
Madhya Pradesh where 13.93 crore, 13.02 crore and 11.82 crore doses have been administered.
Data indicated that the state is yet to pick up on the 12-14 years age group front but the precaution dose takers in the state were as high as 29.4 lakh.
To speed up the vaccination drive for children in the state, Yogi Adityanath has also asked the officials concerned to ensure adequate availability of vaccine doses in Uttar Pradesh.
Aggressive vaccination is an integral part of the comprehensive strategy of the Yogi-led UP government to contain the pandemic, along with adherence to coronavirus-appropriate behaviour.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the state fell further to 1,174. As many as 158 new cases and 262 recoveries were reported. Loss of one life in Bhadoi district due complications caused by the coronavirus was recorded.
