BATHINDA: A Faridkot court on Friday granted bail to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in two cases of sacrilege till their pendency.
Gurmeet is already on bail in a case of sacrilege pertaining to theft of Bir of Guru Granth Sahib from Gurdwara Burj Jawahar Singh on June 1, 2015. He had been nominated in three cases of sacrilege.
The court of chief judicial magistrate Monika Lamba provided him bail in the case of putting up derogatory posters on September 25, 2015, and the other case linked to torn pages of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari on October 12, 2015, on the condition that he will not influence witnesses and not leave the country without its permission, if he comes out of jail.
The prosecution had opposed the bail, saying he may influence the witnesses.
Meanwhile, Faridkot additional sessions judge Rajiv Kalra heard the Behbal Kalan firing case, but former director general of police Sumedh Singh Saini and suspended Inspector General Paramraj Singh Umranangal did not appear in the court.
The court then posted the matter to June 4, directing them to appear before it on the next date of hearing.
