1 Covid death each in Mumbai and Thane

MUMBAI: The city reported its first Covid death in May when a 60-year-old man with co-morbidities passed away. The neighbouring city of Thane, too, registered a death on Friday, taking the state’s daily toll to two.
Covid deaths have drastically reduced during the third wave, which was seen in January. Mumbai registered four deaths each in March and April.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Friday registered its highest daily tally in over two months, when 263 cases were detected. Almost 60% of the cases (155) were registered in Mumbai, which has seen a spurt in cases in the last fortnight. The May caseload in Mumbai so far is already over 50% of April’s tally of 1,827.
While there is a rise in Covid cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra, state public health officials said the increase is too minimal to be a cause for concern. tnn
