Chennai adds 28 Covid cases; 29 districts of Tamil Nadu register no new cases

Fresh cases in Tamil Nadu increased marginally to 44 on Friday compared to 42 on Thursday and 39 on Wednesday. The state discharged 58 patients from the registry leaving 424 active cases. There were no deaths due to the viral infection.

CHENNAI: Fresh cases in Tamil Nadu increased marginally to 44 on Friday compared to 42 on Thursday and 39 on Wednesday. The state discharged 58 patients from the registry leaving 424 active cases. There were no deaths due to the viral infection.
On Friday, Chennai added 28 new cases – an increase from 24 on Thursday and 19 on Wednesday– and was the only district to report cases in two digits. Chengalpet followed with four new cases. While Coimbatore and Madurai reported three new cases, Trichy reported two new cases. Four districts – Kancheepuram, Tirupattur, Tiruvallur and Vellore reported one new case each. Twenty-nine of 38 districts reported zero new cases.

Of the 424 active cases, Chennai had 216 patients followed by 105 in Chengalpet and 21 in Coimbatore. Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram had 16 and 14 active patients respectively. Twenty-two districts had between one and nine active cases and 13 districts had no active cases.
There were 24 patients admitted to the hospitals from across the state for Covid-19 treatment and among these seven of them were in the oxygen beds and three of them –two patients each in Chennai and one in Kanyakumari -- were in ICUs.
