50 suffer food poisoning after baby shower feast

Rajkot: About 50 people, mostly children, suffered from food poisoning after having a feast in Mitala village of Morbi's Tankara taluka.
A large number of people from Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot and Wankaner, had gone to attend the baby shower at the house of a local named Salim. He had biryani and chocolate barfi prepared for the feast for lunch.
At night, several people started having vomiting and diarrhea and some of them got dehydrated.
Six children and two women were rushed to Rajkot Civil Hospital while others were admitted to hospitals in Wankaner and Morbi.
"About 20, mostly children, aged between five to 15 years, are still under treatment,' said police.
It is suspected that the food might have gotten stale due to severe heat.
Samples of biryani and barfi were collected and sent for tests. tnn
