Berhampur: After two years of restricted living because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the children of Silk City have a reason to cheer. After all, the
Berhampur Municipal Corporation (
BeMC) has decided to organise a summer camp for them this year.
The registration for the month-long camp started on Thursday.
The BeMC is charing Rs 500 for it. The camp will be open to children up to 18 years of age. Those registered will be made to camp in the city from May 17.
“As the pandemic situation has improved considerably in the district and most activities have resumed, we also decided to bring back the summer camp for kids once again this year,” Siddheshwar
Baliram Bondare, commissioner of BeMC, said.
Different sports such as badminton, table tennis, volleyball, handball, basketball (women), football, skating, boxing (women), cricket and other cultural activities including fine arts, paintings, dance (classical and modern) will be held in the camp.
The BeMC commissioner said the camp will be organised with the support of renowned players, artists and institutes. Many of them have already promised to train the participating children during the summer camp. This will help sharpen their skills, the commissioner said.
“We hope more and more children will be attracted to the summer camp as it is being held after a gap of two years,” Sanghamitra Dalai, mayor of BeMC, said.
The civic body held the first summer camp here in 2018. Parents are also excited to enrol their children in the camp. “They were bored and fed up of being at home all the time. We were also fed up with their tantrums. So I think many of us will certainly our children to enrol for the camp and take part in as many activities as possible,” Gopal Reddy, a resident of
Gandhi Nagar, said.
