Vadodara: A man’s arrest in connection with the murders of a five-year-old boy and his 10-year-old brother in Dahod district has revealed that he had allegedly killed them over a petty quarrel with their mother. The mother of the slain brothers had allegedly slapped the accused leading to the situation.
Dilip Bamaniya (10) and his brother
Rahul Bamaniya (5) had gone missing on Tuesday from the Kantu village in the precincts of the Dhanpur police station. The family could not locate the boys despite searching for them desperately. Dilip’s body was, however, spotted on Thursday by a villager under some stones at an isolated place near the village.
Dilip’s family and Dhanpur police were informed regarding the body. It had come to light that the boys had left with
Rajesh Mohaniya (25) who used to work with their father Narvat Bamaniya.
A day before the body was discovered
Mohaniya had even told the family that he had dropped the boys back at their home. “Even as we were completing legal formalities regarding the body that we had found in suspicious condition, we receive a tip-off that Mohaniya was trying to escape and was going to catch a bus or any other transport he could find at the earliest. A team went and nabbed him,” said Dhanpur police sub-inspector B M Patel.
Patel added that questioning Mohaniya led them to the body of
Rahul that was disposed of at another location. “The accused said that he had first murdered Dilip by pinning him down holding his neck and then smashing his head with a stone,” Patel said.
The accused then took Rahul to another location and killed him too by hitting him on the head with a stone and then throwing the boy into a well.
Patel said that the reason for the murders of the innocent children was a quarrel that Mohaniya had with their mother a few days back.
Mohaniya had asked the elder sister of the slain children to get ‘gutkha’ for him. When she refused, he started scolding her. The girl’s mother heard this and reprimanded Mohaniya. The mother even slapped him.
“Mohaniya wanted to take revenge and hence he killed the children. He told the children that he would take them to the sump where Mohaniya and their father worked. Later, he promised to take them to a wedding for a feast and killed them,” Patel said.
