Jamshedpur: With most Steel City private schools closing down for month-long summer vacations from the first or second week of May, the rush for tickets for long-distance trains passing through
Tatanagar station has shot up.
Most of the trains for New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai or Bihar are fully booked and have long waiting lists for AC and sleeper-class coaches till June. After two years of Covid break, people are desperate to travel. Those who could not plan early are making beelines to travel agents.
Sources at the railway reservation counter here said the waiting lists in some of the trains, including Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express,
Rajdhani, Utkal Express and Tata-Alleppy Express have crossed the 200 mark, while in trains like South Bihar Express and Azad Hind the waiting list is ranging between 100 and 150.
A railway official said such a huge rush is being witnessed in the trains passing through Tatanagar station after two years.
The IRCTC site shows reservation is also not available in the
Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) — Shalimar summer special train that was introduced last month and goes via Tatanagar too this May-June. The special train was introduced to take care of the extra rush of passengers witnessed during this time of the year.
According to railway officials, the revenue earned from passenger tickets has also jumped, which had hit the rock bottom during lockdown at this time in 2020. As compared to last year’s earnings in April which was around Rs 2.50 crore, this year the earnings have crossed the Rs 3-crore mark.
