Man held for raping, blackmailing woman

Mangaluru: The city crime branch (CCB) team has nabbed a person, who was accused of allegedly luring a woman, raping her, and then extorting money from her.
The arrested accused is Shan Nawaz, 36, a resident of Hidayath Nagar in Thokkottu. Police said the accused had lured a woman from Moodbidri by promising to marry her, and later allegedly raped her. He was also accused of forcing her to consume drugs, and taking her nude pictures on his mobile phone. Later, the accused allegedly blackmailed the woman, and extorted Rs 1.5 lakh from her.
The accused had abused the woman sexually in lodges at various places. A case in this regard was registered at the Mangaluru women’s police station, based on a complaint filed by the woman. The case was later handed over to the CCB. CCB inspector Mahesh Prasad and his team arrested Nawaz.
The court remanded Nawaz to seven days of police custody on Friday. The accused was involved in two cases pertaining to the sale of drugs, registered at the CEN police station in 2019 and 2020. The woman was sent to Mahila Santhwana Kendra for treatment, police stated.
