Ludhiana: The vigilance bureau on Friday arrested ASI Ashok Kumar, in-charge of Basant Park police post, while taking Rs 5,000 as bribe while a head constable Raj Gopal escaped from the spot. The cops had demanded money from a person to an lodge an FIR under assault charges. In his complaint, Harpreet Singh of Lapran Village claimed he had been assaulted by some miscreants after which he had filed a complaint with the police. Before lodging an FIR, an inquiry into the incident was marked to ASI Ashok Kumar. He said that the ASI and head constable called him to the police post and sought Rs 10,000 as bribe to lodge an FIR. The deal was sealed at Rs 5,000. However, he made a complaint to the vigilance bureau. SSP (Vigilance) Rupinder Singh said the vigilance bureau laid a trap on Friday and arrested ASI Ashok Kumar while accepting the bribe whereas the head constable managed to escape. A hunt is on for his arrest. A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been lodged against the accused.
