AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to file a police complaint after they found that taxes amounting to Rs 2.26 crore, paid by 281 taxpayers in March, have not been deposited in their account. After the alleged irregularity was discovered, the committee demanded a vigilance inquiry into the matter. “Today, this issue was discussed in detail in the weekly meeting of the revenue committee. We have decided to lodge a police complaint in this matter along with e-governance officials,” said Jainik Vakil, chairman of AMC’s revenue committee. “We will take legal action against defaulters as per the provisions of GPMC Act 1949. Those served final notices under sections 42, 43 and 45 of GPMC Act are required to pay taxes within 15 days of issuance of notices, else they will be issued warrants for seizure of their properties,” Vakil said. According to civic body data, in financial year 2021-22, the revenue committee sealed 22,394 properties for nonpayment of taxes. Of these, 13,624 seals were opened after the owners paid their taxes while 5,311 properties are still sealed. tnn
