Mysuru: The department of public instruction (DPI) is training government schoolteachers on implementing the ‘Kalika Chetarike’ programme for students of Classes 4-10 and ‘Vidya Pravesha’ for Classes 1-3 as less than a week remains for the start of the academic year.
The DPI started the training on the bridge learning programmes on May 9 and wants to complete it by May 14. Schools will reopen on May 16.
The two initiatives by the state government were appreciated at the national level as it helped students in government schools bridge their learning gaps in the last two years. For example, an SSLC student will get help with material taught in Classes 8 and 9.
There will be assessment tests to understand how much knowledge a student could acquire on a subject.
For primary school teachers, the training is provided at the taluk level, while for high school teachers, the training is imparted at the district level by the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), said Mysuru DDPI Ramachandra Raje Urs said.
According to officials and the resource persons in the DPI, the teachers are trained for two days on the implementation of the two programmes, which will be a year-long exercise.
The teachers are given two books — the teachers’ handbook and the students’ workbook. They need to assess the learning levels of the students on various parameters after launching the programmes in schools. For example, in English, the assessment includes speaking and listening skills.
This initiative will go on till the 2025-26 academic year.
