The leopard cub died after getting entangled in a steel wire snare
Nagpur: A one-year-old female leopard cub died after getting entangled in a steel wire snare on Wednesday in Yenvihira under the Kondhali forest range, 40km from Nagpur.
Assistant conservator of forests (ACF) PD Palwe suspected that the trap must have been laid for wild boar but the leopard got stuck in it. The carnivore was found hanging in a clutch wire snare on Wednesday afternoon on a farm owned by Chhaya Shridhar Hawale of Nagpur.
The spot where the leopard cub was found dead is close to a water body and a warehouse of explosives factories.
“It may also be a handiwork of labourers from other states who work in these factories. We also saw fresh pugmark of a leopardess indicating the mother must be along with the cub,” said officials.
The leopard was brought to the Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) at Seminary Hills where a post-mortem was conducted as per NTCA protocol.
