Noida: A sub-inspector of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police has been arrested for allegedly attacking a businessman following an argument over parking a car at
Jagat Farm in
Greater Noida. Two cops have been shunted to the police lines for delay in response.
The
ITBP sub-inspector who was arrested was identified as Pankaj Chaudhary. “The incident took place around 8pm on Wednesday, when Ritesh
Rai (30), who runs a garment store at the Jagat Farm market, asked Chaudhary to move his car as it was blocking his vehicle,” said Anil Kumar, the SHO of Beta 2 police station.
Chaudhary, Rai alleged, was with four friends in the car and all of them were drinking.
“The businessman started recording a video and threatened to report it to police. The five told him they were in the ITBP. Rai, however, went to the nearby Jagat Farm police outpost to lodge a complaint, but did not find any cop there,” the SHO said.
Chaudhary followed Rai to the police outpost and allegedly attacked him in the head with a heavy and blunt object.
“Rai took someone’s help to call the helpline number. The cops took Rai to the hospital, where he was given first aid,” Kumar said.
A case was registered under Section 308 (culpable homicide) of the IPC.
“During investigation, Chaudhary was identified as the main accused as he had attacked Rai. Their car was traced to the ITBP camp office in Surajpur. Chaudhary was arrested from there. The five ITBP personnel are posted in Assam and had come to Surajpur for a six-week training camp,” he said.
Police have also found out that the number plate on Chaudhary’s car was fake. The involvement of the four other accused is being investigated.
“We have informed ITBP officers about the incident. A senior sub-inspector of Beta 2 police station and the Jagat Farm police outpost in-charge have been sent to the police lines for their delay in response and reaching the spot,” said Meenakshi Katyayan, the deputy commissioner of police (Greater Noida). She said it had been found that even though the police outpost in-charge had received information about the incident, there was a delay by his team in reaching the spot.
