Dibrugarh: The nursing fraternity celebrated the International Nurses Day at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) on Thursday, to commemorate the 202nd birthday of Florence Nightingale — fondly known as “The Lady with the Lamp” and the founder of modern nursing. The organisers also hosted the farewell ceremony of 12 retired nurses of the AMCH during the same programme at the Dr John Berry White auditorium that was pending since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The International Nurses Day is observed on May 12 to mark the birthday of Florence Nightingale who came to prominence while serving as a nurse, tending to wounded soldiers, during the Crimean War in the 1850s. Momi Neog, AMCH nursing superintendent, spoke about the crucial role of the nursing fraternity in the healthcare sector.
