NOIDA: A 47-year-old woman who was found dead near the stairs leading to her apartment at
Purvanchal Royal Park in Sector 137 on Wednesday morning could have died by suicide, police said.
Allegedly missing since May 9,
Mamta Singh’s body was spotted by a security guard of the complex behind some shrubbery near one of the two entry gates to tower number 4. Though Mamta lived on the first floor of the same tower with her two children and husband, the family members had claimed neither they nor anyone from the housing society had spotted her body before Wednesday.
Deputy commissioner of police (central Noida)
Harish Chandar said a forensic team visited the spot on Thursday and recreated the crime scene to find out what exactly may have led to the woman’s death. “Based on her postmortem report, discussions with the autopsy doctor and other evidence, we are investigating the matter as a possible suicide case,” he stated.
While no injury marks were found on the body, the autopsy report had stated she sustained a blow on the chest that lead to blood clotting and later a haemorrhage.
“We have found that the area where the body has been found is not covered by any
CCTV cameras as it is not a regular passage. The CCTV footage of the tower for three days — May 9 (the day when Mamta went missing) to May 11 (when her body was found) — is being scanned by cops,” the DCP said.
He added that the area where the body was found was a small green belt covered with bushy shrubs beside a staircase.
“During questioning, the family members have revealed that the woman was depressed over the last few months and used to talk about occult practices as well. These claims are being cross-verified,” he said. Police are also questioning some members of the complex.
