After the death of a female in a massive fire in a building near Delhi's Mundka metro station, 26 more have lost the battle of life on Friday evening. With this, the total death count stands at 27.
According to Delhi police, a PCR call was received at 4.45 pm in the Police Station, Mundka regarding the fire incident following which local police immediately rushed to the spot near Metro pillar no. 545 where a building on plot no. 193, Mundka had caught fire.
Thereafter, police broke the building's windows to rescue the inmates. More than 50 employees working in that building have been rescued. Over 30 Fire Tenders of Fire Brigade were pressed into service to control the fire. All rescued victims are being given ambulance facilities on the spot while others severely injured were rushed to the hospital.
The authorities tried to control the fire with the help of a robot.
On preliminary enquiry, it was found that it is a three-story commercial building generally used for providing office space for companies, the police said. The fire was initiated on the 1st floor of the building which is an office of a CCTV cameras and router manufacturing company.

The owner of the company is in police custody. "One casualty has been reported in the incident and efforts are being made to control the situation," the police said. Further, there are a total of nine fire brigades present at the spot and an ambulance facility is also available for providing immediate medical assistance to the victim, it added.
Following the incident, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief for the lives lost in this tragic fire. He tweeted, "Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire in Delhi. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery."

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said, "27 bodies have been recovered and 8 injured have been admitted to the hospital."
