Thane: Four unidentified persons have been booked for forgery and cheating, for allegedly forging documents and claiming Rs 47 lakh from government revenue, that was supposed to be awarded as compensation in return of the land acquired for a dam in Ambernath from the four legal heirs of the four deceased owners of the land. The Irrigation Department is constructing Kushivali dam in Ambernath taluka of Thane District, for which it is acquiring lands of several villagers including those of the deceaseds. The police said that the incident came to light when the legal heirs of the deceaseds approached the irrigation department for compensation, and upon inquiry, it was discovered by the revenue department that the accused had prepared fake documents in the name of the four deceaseds, Nama Patil, Shankar Patil, Narayan Mahatre and Rama Bangar. Suhas Awhad, Police Inspector of Central police station said, “In order to nab the accused, we are seeking details from the bank about the account in which the money was deposited.” — Pradeep Gupta
