Mangaluru: The government has plans to introduce chapters on entrepreneurship in the academic curricula, said minister for large and medium industries
Murugesh R Nirani.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Udyami Aagu, Udyoga Needu’ (Be an Entrepreneur, Become an Employer), a unique programme aimed at attracting youth to entrepreneurship, organised by
Karnataka Udyog Mitra and the department of industries and commerce, here on Thursday.
A discussion regarding the introduction of chapters on entrepreneurship in various academic curricula has already been held with chief minister
Basavaraj Bommai and other cabinet colleagues, the minister said, and called upon young graduates to become entrepreneurs, rather than seeking jobs in government and private sectors.
“Do not wait for government and other jobs. You can be an entrepreneur and provide jobs to others. Investment will not be an issue for those who have a strong will to be an entrepreneur. There are subsidies that can be utilised to set up industries. Register yourself, if you have an urge to become an industrialist, and get free training from the department. We will prepare project reports for you, arrange bank loans, introduce you to the market, and extend support to make you a successful entrepreneur,” Nirani said.
“Coastal districts have abundant opportunities for budding entrepreneurs. The government has plans to set up more airports under the
PPP mode. At present, there are eight airports in Karnataka, and five more will be set up within a year. Similarly, ports and national highways are also being upgraded, and the state does not face a shortage of electricity or water,” he added.
“We have reserved an average of 1,000 acres in each district, to set up industries,’’ he said, adding that women should also come forward to set up industries.
On the Kaigarika Adalat (industrial court), he said that the government will go to the doorsteps of industries, and listen to their grievances.
There may be instances where industrialists face difficulties due to the apathy of officials, he said, observing that in such circumstances, industrialists may not be able to solve their problems through the government. The adalat is a unique initiative, to help industrialists and other stakeholders to resolve their grievances on the spot, he added.
