Thiruvananthapuram: A woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze by pouring kerosene over her body.
Her partner, who tried to prevent her from taking the extreme step, also succumbed to injuries here at Anad in Nedumangad on Thursday.
The woman had also poured kerosene on her daughter’s body, but the child had a narrow escape as she ran out of the house before she could be set ablaze.
The deceased have been identified as Bindu, 29, and Abhilash, 38. Both were natives of Anad.
According to the police, on Thursday Bindu and Abhilash, who had arrived back from abroad on Wednesday, engaged in a heated argument.
Soon after the argument Bindu poured kerosene on herself and her young daughter and tried to commit suicide on Thursday evening.
According to a report, Bindu started to live with Abhilash after divorcing her husband.
The daughter is from her first marriage.
Nedumangad police has registered a case under Section 174 of IPC for unnatural death.
Both the woman and her live-in partner were pronounced dead on the scene of crime itself.
The bodies of both Bindu and Abhilash are kept at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for post-mortem procedures.
