PUNE: The Warje police are searching for an unidentified fraudster for cheating a retired school teacher to the tune of Rs2 lakh on December 1, 2021.
The retired teacher (69) had lodged a complaint with the cyber police after conducting a preliminary investigation. A formal FIR was registered with the Warje police on Wednesday afternoon.
Inspector Datta Bagwe of the Warje police said, "The fraudster called the victim under the guise of an executive from a public sector telecom company. The fraudster asked her to do a KYC check of her SIM card and also told her that if it is not done, her cellphone services will be disconnected."
He promised to help her out and sent a text message with a link to a remote access software. The teacher downloaded the software and shared its PIN. He then asked her to send Rs10 as his fees and the victim used her e-banking facilities to pay the amount. “He noted down the details of her debit card using the remote access software and siphoned off the money from her bank account,” he said.
