Amravati: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) attached to Walgaon police station hanged himself to a tree near his Gaglani Nagar residence on Wednesday morning.
ASI Vijay Kisanrao Adokar (54) took the extreme step after his request for transfer was allegedly neglected by police commissioner Arti Singh and he was allegedly harassed and threatened of suspension by Walgaon police inspector Vijay Kumar Wakse.
The irate family members of Adokar stormed Frazerpura police station and refused to accept the body until an offence of abetment to suicide is registered against the CP and the PI. The family relented only after deputy commissioner of police MM Makandar agreed to register the complaint and conduct inquiry.
Adokar hanged himself to a tree nearby his house using a dupatta early in the morning. When the residents of the locality noticed this, they informed Frazerpura police and also the Adokar family members. Police reached the spot, performed panchnama and sent the body to district general hospital for postmortem.
The family members expressed their anger against senior police officers who allegedly neglected his request for transfer on health grounds.
DCP Makandar talked to family members and registered the complaint of the deceased’s wife Sangeeta, who charged the CP and Walgaon PI of driving Adokar to end his life.
After the DCP’s assurance, the family performed the last rites in the evening.
