Ranchi: District and sessions court in Khunti on Wednesday sentenced one Sukhdeo Pahan to rigorous life imprisonment under Section 302 of IPC for killing a 70-year-old woman named Salomi Mundu in 2019 after accusing her of practising witchcraft. A fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on the convict. The court further sentenced Pahan to six months under Section 4 of Prevention of Witch Practices Act 1999. Both the sentences would run concurrently. The incident took place under Murhu police station in March 2019.

Ranchi: Unidentified miscreants on Tuesday night hurled a bomb at a panchayat samiti member aspirant Taiyyab Ansari’s house at Alipur village under Tupudana police station area. The bomb was defused by the police on Wednesday morning. Police said land dispute could be the reason behind the attack. An FIR has been registered against two persons.
Robbers held
Ranchi: Four persons were arrested in connection with a jewelry shop loot case that took place on May 5, police said on Wednesday. Jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh and cash was stolen from the shop located under Lalpur police station area. The arrested persons were identified as Saurav Kumar, Basudeo Sah, Rupesh Vishwakarma and Ashutosh Rai. Three country-made pistols and nine cartridges were seized from their possession. Police have also recovered the stolen jewellery items . Raids are underway to nab another accused named Dinesh Kumar in connection with the case. The miscreants had taken the shop owners and the employees hostage before looting the shop.
